NEWS

Allstate Insurance Company Exposed: When consulting giant McKinsey & Company recommended that Allstate and other insurance companies adopt a computer model to lower offers for people making claims, the claims process became a profit machine for the insurance companies. The strategy was named "Good Hands to Boxing Gloves". The strategy was to make it so expensive and so time-consuming that lawyers would start refusing to help clients. Those who took a low-ball offer received prompt service, while those who didn't were delayed or litigation began. On average, Allstate drove down claims by 30% and reported $4.7 billion in profits in 2007, more than double its earnings in the 1990s. Allstate CEO, Tom Wilson, earned $9.3 million last year and he wasn't even in the top 10 of insurance executives earnings. There is no doubt these planned claim delays put the squeeze on the claimants. (Source-Huffington Post 12/13/2011). The 2010 tax act is temporary, expiring on 12/31/12. The estate and GST tax exemptions are increased to $5,000,000 as 1/1/10. The gift tax exemption is increased to $5,000,000 as 1/1/11. In 2012 it is indexed for inflation. Estate and gift tax rate is a flat 35%.
In today's society, persons of the opposite sex and the same sex are living together and accumulating properties together. Kentucky law does not provide how properties are divided should the couples part ways. There are various legal principles that may apply. Nonetheless, there is a way to provide how things will be divided. A cohabitation agreement can be prepared to cover division of properties, contributions to the relationship, and other matters important to the couples. We can help you do this. Call 633-6002 for an appointment with Mr. Neal.
